Don't let missing teeth hinder your beautiful smile when there is always a way to fix them with implants! Implants are a popular method of restoring lost or missing teeth with life-like restorations. Damaged teeth may be the result of a cavity, external, or internal damage to the enamel. Although there are several ways to keep your natural teeth, it is only under circumstances when the teeth have suffered from major damage do dentists advise implants to restore them.

What are dental implants?

Implants are screw-like devices that are designed to replicate and replace lost tooth roots. They are generally made out of titanium and are known to be a highly durable option to replace missing teeth. After planting the artificial root, the dentist would use restorations such as crowns or bridges to encase it.

What is the process involved in replacing your missing teeth?

Missing teeth may be replaced by using single implants or multiple implants. It would depend on the requirement as if the patient has more than one missing teeth, he/she would require multiple implants. The general process involved in getting implants would involve an initial consultation followed by the procedure. It would require a total of two visits to the dentist's office. During the initial visit, the dentist examines the patient's oral cavity and takes necessary X-rays if necessary. It is during this visit that the dentist would decide whether the patient is in need of single or multiple implants.

The procedure begins by numbing the surface of the gums where the implant has to be inserted. A careful incision would be made at the drilling site and the dentist would surgically place the implant into the jawbone. After placing the implant, the gums surrounding the implant would be carefully sutured and sealed. The dentist would advise a certain healing period so that the implant gets properly fused into the jawbone.

During the second visit, the dentist would begin to encase the newly implanted artificial root with a suitable dental restoration and seal it with dental adhesives.

The dentist would advise the patient on follow-up visits and post-procedure care tips after the procedure is done. It is always advised to follow oral hygiene habits by brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day.
