Smile Makeover Q&A

What is a smile makeover?

A smile makeover uses cosmetic dentistry techniques to address the things you don’t like about your teeth. To achieve the best possible outcome, the team at Trinh Dental considers several factors before developing a treatment plan, including your skin tone, hair color, and the width, length, and shape of your teeth.

Anyone who is unhappy with their teeth, gums, or smile can benefit from a smile makeover. The team at Trinh Dental tailors treatment to your individual needs, ensuring a positive outcome that you can be proud of.

What does a smile makeover involve?

No two smile makeovers are exactly alike. Some of the most common cosmetic dentistry techniques used in a smile makeover include:

Dental bonding

Dental bonding uses composite resin to repair chipped, cracked, or otherwise damaged teeth. It’s quick, pain-free, and incredibly affordable.

Crowns

Crowns are tooth-shaped coverings used to repair damage or decay. Once placed, a crown covers the portion of your tooth that sits above the gum line, restoring its shape, size, and appearance.

Bridges

If you’re missing a single permanent tooth, a dental bridge can close the gap in your smile. There are several types of bridges, but the most common is a traditional dental bridge. Traditional bridges have a false tooth and two crowns. Your dentist bonds the crowns to the healthy teeth on either side of the space in your smile.

Invisalign®

If you have crooked or crowded teeth, the team might recommend orthodontic treatment with Invisalign. Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic mouthpieces to gradually straighten your teeth. It’s much more discreet than traditional metal braces.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays use tooth-colored materials to repair damage caused by decay. They fit inside the grooves of your tooth, improving its strength and durability.

Onlays are very similar. The main difference is that they extend to the chewing surfaces of your teeth, covering the cusps. Your dentist bonds an onlay to the top of a molar or premolar, restoring its strength as well as your ability to bite and chew.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening removes stains and discoloration from the surfaces of your teeth.

At Trinh Dental, the team offers in-office teeth whitening with Philips Zoom. This type of treatment can make your teeth between 6-12* shades lighter in just one treatment session. Teeth whitening isn’t permanent, but with good oral hygiene, your results can last for four to six months.

Veneers

Veneers are custom-crafted shells of porcelain that attach to the front of your permanent teeth. They can correct various imperfections, including smaller-than-average teeth, chipped teeth, and teeth that don’t respond to teeth whitening.

Dental implants

Dental implants are oral prosthetics that serve as replacement tooth roots. They provide a firm foundation for crowns, bridges, or implant-supported dentures. Dental implants can prevent issues like gum recession and bone decay caused by missing teeth.

The team at Trinh Dental doesn’t perform dental implant placement themselves, but they can refer you to a local periodontist who does. Once you get your implants, the team can create restorations, such as crowns, a bridge, or implant-supported dentures to meet your needs.

How do I extend the results of my smile makeover?

Following your smile makeover, you must take steps to preserve the results. The team at Trinh Dental recommends brushing and flossing daily and visiting the office every six months for a dental exam and cleaning.

If you play contact sports or grind your teeth, you might also want to wear a mouthguard or night guard to lower the risk of damage. It’s also important to avoid bad habits like nail-biting, chewing on ice, or opening things with your teeth.
